“The feedback for the image in this submission focuses on how well the illustration meets the standard publishing industry expectations for children's books.
The image is clear and well-defined in terms of how the various elements are brought together. The checkerboard background implies a pizza restaurant tablecloth. the pup holds the pizza slice in a way that allows his mouth to show its smile at the triumphant win. The eyes enhance the dog's joy, and the perked ears add to the pleasure of the dog and the viewer.
The fact that the dog is sitting on a plate is delightful. while the plate might be a little lost with the light tones seen throughout the image, the shadow on the plate and the set of silverware next to it signal to viewers to take a closer look. one suggestion is to change the checkerboard a bit to make the plate and pup really pop.
Overall, then the key desirable elements of a children's book illustration are met: the image is easy to interpret, it's appealing to young children (as well as adults who will buy the book), and it helps the readers interpret the storyline. Nicely done.”
